LG polls: Bilawal solicits party proposals

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has invited party ranks to submit their suggestions regarding the forthcoming local government (LG) elections to the party secretariat in Islamabad.

According to a statement issued on Saturday, the party tickets in polls will be awarded by provincial party chapters as the policy stands unchanged, regarding which a formal communication has also been addressed to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The PPP chairman has also directed the party’s divisional presidents in Balochistan, Sindh and Punjab to submit their suggestions.

“The party’s provincial chapter used to issue party tickets in local government elections,” PPP leader and former senator Farhatullah Babar said.

“The electoral process for the local government elections has begun in Balochistan, while the election commission has announced the election schedule for 17 districts of Punjab and Sindh’s four divisions,” he added.

The schedule for the first phases of local government polls in 17 districts in Punjab on May 29 has already been announced.
